The dental dangers of ice

We know, we know: It’s really hot this month in the news and maybe even outside, but that is no excuse for harming your teeth with bad habits.  There may even be more to eating ice then you think.  The dog days of summer have arrived.  With hotter months comes more ice cream, ice-cold drinks, and ice in general. Despite ice being a great thing, though, there’s a tendency for some people to eat ice more than they realize. And we’re sure you’ve heard of the saying “it’s bad to chew on ice.”  Well, that’s not just a myth. It really does have merit. If you’re looking to get your teeth checked out because of sensitivity or a chipped tooth, just click below to visit our site and set up an appointment. Eating ice can be a great reason to head in to see your dentist because you may have some underlying issues happening that even you are not aware of.  Ice can be quite harmful to the general state of your dental health, so don’t ignore the warnings that it’s bad to chew on ice. It really is.

One of the worst things that you could be doing is actually wearing away enamel. This is a horrible thing to do because at a certain age you no longer are able to produce it.  It is so harmful to take away something from your body that you cannot replace.

Ice isn’t a soft substance, of course, which means it’ll be able to erode your enamel over time, especially if you’re a chronic ice chewer. This is only asking for existing plaque to take hold and create cavities.  So it really is not worth chewing on ice instead of heading off to see your dentist and get a fix.  It may end up saving a ton of money as well. So make sure not to be too late on this.  Now the next thing you could do and it is directly related to loosing enamel is this.

Cracking a tooth is certainly an issue and a possibility with eating ice.  If you are chomping down on a lot of ice each day your ods of crunching a tooth go sky high.

Just like chewing on a jawbreaker or any other hard food or item, ice can actually crack your tooth depending on where you’re chewing it at in your mouth and how brittle your teeth are. The scary thing about this is you may not even know you’ve cracked a tooth since microfractures are a thing. When this happens, you probably won’t even see or hear it take place. But once microfractures have happened, it’s much easier for bacteria to get inside your tooth.

One thing that I really do not like is having the problem of sensitizing your teeth.

Ice directly on the enamel of your teeth won’t affect your nerves much, but when a microfracture happens because of chewing on ice, it’s much easier for unwanted bacteria to get inside your tooth and attack your nerve tissue. When this happens, your teeth become much more sensitive to heat and cold. Guess what happens then? You’ll no longer even want to eat ice because it hurts too much.  So if you find yourself in any one of these areas go see your dentist and get on the right track to health.

Take Care of your Teeth

There are many parts of the body that are known to be areas we need to look out for.  Most of the time our Doctor or the News lets us know that our weight and joints are most likely the most important parts of our body to work on.  We are always on a new diet to cut some pounds and maybe lose some cholesterol problems.  But the one area that we don't focus that much on is our dental health.  This is an area that is finally getting some more attention this year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  The reality is that the pandemic has brought more attention to our mouths due to the use of facemasks and zoom calls.  Literally, this is an are that many people are now focusing on more and wanting to improve.  So I want to go over some steps to improve your dental enamel health and how to maybe even keep that nasty halitosis from occurring.

The reality is that most of the dental issues always go back to your daily routines.  This can be what you are eating and drinking, but it can also be your normal dental routine as well.  The habits we have on the things we do daily have the greatest impact on our lives and that is because they are constants in our lives.  So making sure you are working on creating good habits is the best route for dental care.

The first thing that we all think about is brushing our teeth.  This is because it has been drilled into us since we were children, but the reality is that the routines we have based on our brushing impact our entire dental health.  The vast majority of Americans brush their teeth only once a day.  That is the harsh reality and it can be due to lack of time or simply that is the habit they got into and stuck with it.  The ADA suggests that we brush our teeth at least twice a day to help prevent tooth decay.  We are not only supposed to brush twice a day but to use a high in fluoride toothpaste to protect our teeth.  The fact is that this is where we need to start in our routines to fight tooth decay.

I suggest actually brushing three times a day in order to prevent not only tooth decay but to help fight bad breath as well.  It can be complicated to fit this into our schedule, but especially if you are working from home the three brushings a day can be done.  So how do you do it?  The best way is to set alarms.  We all have smartphones now and I think planning three strategic times of the day that are easiest is important.  I schedule my day into a morning brush after breakfast.  An after lunch brush right before I clock back into work and a night brush right before I go to bed.

For the first two brushings of the day, I use a high in fluoride toothpaste to protect my teeth from the bad things I am eating and drinking.  Then at night, I fight the yellowing of my teeth from the bad things I eat and drink by using a charcoal whitening toothpaste.  I hope these tips help you in your 2020 journey to health.

What liquid can help your mouth?

I love when doing the right thing actually has awesome endings.  There are some health things we do for diet reasons that end up being very useful and helpful for other reasons. Everyone has their own personal routines for the day.  Lots of Americans live very healthy and productive lives, but lots of American's are sedentary.  The near-majority also live unhealthy lifestyles as well.  This has been shown by the obesity level which is strikingly high and is truly the pandemic of 2021 not COVID-19 One way to help fight the unhealthy lifestyles that are growing in the United States is to drink more water.  Water has lots of amazing benefits for your health and even help your dental hygiene.  So what are some ways that you can increase your health on a daily basis by drinking more water? I will post a few tips on how to be a little more healthy and keep your hygiene higher than the basic person?

Well, there are several things you can do and I have to say that probably the best way to drink more water and be a little more healthy is to have water with you.  This is because water has so many good benefits.  What does this mean and how do you achieve it.  It means having a good water container on you.  In order to do this purchasing, a water bottle that fits your lifestyle and looks is a good idea.  So if you work in an office setting it may be an inconvenience to carry a water bottle that looks like it belongs in a gym.  Now there are many containers that look like coffee containers or even high-end cups.  It may be more convenient to not have individuals see you as being a massive water drinking and instead see a nice stainless steel water bottle on the desk or conference room table instead of a plastic bottle.  Granted a plastic bottle is an amazing water bottle and in your workplace that may be the appropriate style of water-carrying device to have available. So make sure you are comfortable where you are with your water bottle and also have a way to fill it back up and don't be afraid to try some glass containers too.

The one thing that we need is water and having it available at all times is important.  There are other things that it can do and being able to drink water throughout the day actually rinses your mouth and can clean your teeth from unhealthy bacteria.  It is really important to live healthy and drinking water after coffee can eliminate the bacteria that not only causes enamel to erode but also the dark pigment that sticks to the enamel on your teeth causing staining.

Having a good water bottle around and constantly drinking water can help eliminate the unfortunate effects that coffee and food can have on your teeth. So a great way to stay hydrated and healthy is to have the option to drink water all the time.  Stay healthy and stay happy and you will be on the way to a life that may keep you away from the hospital or dentist more so than your neighbor.  Just remember to get a checkup from your dentist twice a year to make sure all is going well.

Dental Sealants For Protection Against Dental Problems

With the help of dental sealants, it is possible for you to prevent cavities for years. These are especially beneficial for children.

Teaching children to brush their teeth daily is a must, but you can ensure better protection of their teeth against cavities by taking them to the dentist for dental sealants.

Dental sealant is a thin coating that the dentist applies on teeth’s chewing surface to protect them against bacterial damage. The application of the sealant is a painless process that costs around $30 to $60 per tooth.

What does the research tell us?

According to a report by the CDC, a person can prevent 80% of the cavities with the help of dental sealants. The sealants do not wear off completely after two years, and, thus, keep preventing teeth from 50% of the cavities for up to four years. The average maximum age of dental sealants is nine years, but they can last even longer in some cases. The research also suggests that school-age children without dental sealants are three times more likely to develop cavities. It means that the parents of those children can save a significant amount of money, which might be spent on dental treatments.

During every dental visit, dentists check these sealants to make sure that they are not wearing away.

Long term benefits of dental sealants

Dental sealants can last forever if the application method is flawless. They are still beneficial even if you have to replace them after a few years.

The growing children get molars and pre-molars soon after their permanent start to grow. These back teeth usually have grooves, which are also known as pits and fissures. Cleaning these grooves with a toothbrush can be difficult, so you may want to take your child to the dentist to let him or her have the dental sealant.

You can also seal the primary teeth of your baby, but you have to make sure that your baby can hold his or her mouth for the duration of the procedure. Dentists suggest sealants only for those babies who are at a higher risk of developing cavities. For this purpose, you may want to take your baby to your family dentist for a complete analysis. The dentist will advise any action based on this analysis.

Dental sealants are beneficial for adults also. With aging, your teeth become more exposed to decay and cavities. Getting your teeth protected by dental sealants can help you prevent severe problems in the future.

You are not a candidate for dental sealants if you have a restoration or dental implant.

According to general observation, dental sealants are safe and effective. It is, however, crucial to note that dental sealants are not an alternative to brushing and flossing. Getting dental sealants doesn’t mean that you don’t have to practice proper oral hygiene to prevent dental and oral issues. You will still need to brush your teeth twice every day and floss at least once. Moreover, make sure to visit your dentist every six weeks.
