Prepare Your Families Teeth for the Holidays

If your family is anything like mine we love the holiday season.  First, comes Thanksgiving and all the food that we all love to eat.  My mom makes mashed potatoes and we all end up making a dessert.  That is really the main part of our entire holiday.  The potatoes then the dessert. In between all of those times, we are gathering and getting together from there till New Years'.  That is over a month of eating and snacking on amazing treats all while enjoying each other's company.  Not to include all of the work and friends gatherings that take place as well.  This is simply a time where we love to be together and during this time something can happen that is really unhealthy and bad for our families.  Our dental routines need to be strong during this time because inevitably we are going to eat and drink more sugary and acidic foods that break down tooth enamel and hurt our overall health.  That is why you need to have a plan for this year and we are working on upping our routines to be better to our mouths.

There are many things you can do to help protect your family during this time of year.  I think one of the hardest yet most simple things you can do is to put your family on a diet.  This is not just for weight, but for your dental health.  If you work on keeping your family from eating less sugar and alcohol and focus more of healthy foods then you will be doing your teeth a huge favor.  I know this may be the most complicated and hard thing to do but I have to be honest it is the easiest way to save your teeth.  Your diet really consists of the majority of issues that come to your mouth.  It is food particles and the worse ones that cling to teeth that are left there cause the most damage.  Drinking tons of sugar and coffee can be a big part of this as well.  So think about this and don't just forget about your diet when it comes to your dental health.

One easy thing that many of us can do is to simply drink more water this time of year.  If you are at a party try to drink a glass of water for each sugar drink or keep one around when eating.  This can help rinse your mouth from all the bad sugary things from clinging to your teeth.  It is also a great way to stay hydrated.  This allows your saliva production to stay strong and can keep your mouth safer in the long run.  So keep a water bottle around this year and keep rinsing your teeth and try to get your family to do the same.  THis simple thing can save tons of cavities from occuring.

Make sure your family is on a schedule for brushing this month.  It is the most important time to make sure your family's teeth are protected.  It is wise to set alarms on your phone to keep this month's dental routine strong.  It may save thousands of dollars and a whole lot of pain and time.  That is totally worth it. So best of luck this year and I hope these tips helped!
